Kebnekaise North summit & Tolpagorni
13 August, 2026—16 August, 2026
7900krThe ultimate adventure for Kebnekaise! An expedition where we climb two iconic mountains: Kebnekaise & Tolpagorni. There is exciting climbing, exposed ridges, glacier and a fun Via Ferrata. Our goal is to climb both Sydtoppen & Nordtoppen on Kebnekaise together with an IFMGA guide.
Nordtoppen is now Sweden’s highest point at 2097 m since the glacier on Sydtoppen melted over the years. To get there you need to walk in a rope team over a narrow ridge. It is tickling and magical at the same time and you have to stay focused at every step. We do the Eastern Trail with Via Ferrata up to Sydtoppen and from there we continue to Nordtoppen.
But the adventure doesn’t end there – after a morning of sleep we try rock climbing on Kaipak and prepare ourselves for the next challenge: the crater ridge on Tolpagorni! It is perhaps Sweden’s most iconic mountain and the climb is exposed but never too difficult or technical. A real wow experience!
Since we have an IFMGA guide for two days, we also have the opportunity to choose the peak day on Kebnekaise depending on which day the weather is best – a luxury you often don’t get on other expeditions.
This trip is suitable for those with good fitness and balance. It is not for the extremely afraid of heights. For beginners, our course in mountain hiking & climbing Kebnekaise is better suited!

Day 1
We meet in Nikkaluokta at 12:00 and then we start our hike towards Kebnekaise Mountain Station where we set up our camp. Your luggage is transported to Kebnekaise Mountain Station so you only need to hike with a light daypack. We have lunch after about 6 km at Sarri where you can get a good waffle or sandwich before we continue towards Kebnekaise Mountain Station.
Arriving at our camp we go through camping and camp routines, pitch our tents and prepare a delicious dinner. We also have a joint meeting and hand out equipment and go over how it works for tomorrow’s challenge: Climbing Kebnekaise!
You will get to Nikkaluokta on your own. If you take the Nikkaluoktaexpressen bus from Kiruna, you will arrive in Nikkaluokta at 11.30. See more about how to get to Nikkaluokta below
Hiking: From Nikkaluokta to Kebnekaise Mountain Station 19 km +450 meters of elevation
Day 2
It is time to make an attempt to reach the North Peak on Kebnekaise. The way there is via Östra Leden which starts with a moderately steep path before we cross Kittelbäcken and start heading up Storbacken. When we have finally made it up it is boulder terrain for a while until we reach Björlings glacier. Here we tie ourselves into rope teams and cross the glacier and then start climbing upwards on a Via Ferrata. The last part to the South Peak is a snowfield and from there we need to walk over an exposed ridge to the North Peak. And hopefully we will be there – at Sweden’s highest point, looking out over the Kebnekaise massif.
We will take the same route back. This will be the longest day, so it will be quite nice to be back in our camp and have a proper dinner and relax after the summit climb.
Hiking: approx. 14 km + 1400 altitude meters
Day 3
After a long morning of sleep and rest, we head after lunch to Kaipak, which is located approx. 200 m from the mountain station. Here you will get to try rock climbing and abseiling, which will be a moderately strenuous and fun afternoon activity that will also help prepare you for the next challenge: Climbing the Crater Ridge on Tolpagorni.

Day 4
Today a spectacular experience awaits you: Climbing Tolpagorni and climbing the Crater Ridge. After an approach to the ridge, we tie ourselves into rope teams and continue up while it becomes more and more exposed around us. At times it will feel steep and vertical but the climb is never difficult. There is always a good grip to hold on to and a good place to stand which makes it fantastic fun and something out of the ordinary. Previous guests have found this to be better than Kebnekaise so we are happy to be able to offer two top experiences in the same trip!
Back at the camp we then cook a delicious dinner.
Hiking: approx. 10 km + 1100 altitude meters
Day 5
It is time to hike back to Nikkaluokta where the adventure ends. We pack up our camp and send our luggage by transport while we hike out with a day backpack. It is best if you book a return trip from Kiruna in the evening so we can be in Nikkaluokta at 3pm so you can take the bus to Kiruna at 4:30pm in peace and quiet.
Hiking: 19 km
Please note that the program may be adjusted due to weather and conditions.
