Join a ski touring course in Funäsdalen / Tänndalen. This course is designed for beginners who have never tried ski touring before or have only done a tour on their own but want to learn more and start being able to tour independently in the future. We won’t be doing any advanced runs — if you can ski blue/red slopes, this course will suit you perfectly! No previous off-piste experience is required either. This is a gentle-level course where the focus is on making you feel more comfortable and helping you learn. We will ascend at a relaxed pace, and the goal is to enjoy the tours. If you are looking for something more extreme, this might not be the right course for you.

You will also learn how to plan your own tours and gain basic avalanche knowledge, including companion rescue.

Itinerary

Online meeting in preparation with avalanche knowledge. Date & link will be sent a couple of weeks before the trip.

Day 1
We meet in Tänndalen and start the day with coffee & an introduction before heading out to the mountains, where you will learn how the equipment works, techniques for ascending and skiing down. There will be plenty of time for questions. The goal of the day is for you to feel confident with your equipment and understand how it works. We will also practice avalanche search. We will do a tour in the nearby area.

Day 2
We begin the day with a few hours of theory focusing on tour planning. Then we head out on a longer tour. We look at route choices both uphill and downhill, and the terrain along the way, discussing as a group why we make the choices we do. The goal is for participants to understand how to plan a tour, both in preparation and out in the terrain.

Day 3
Today we do a nice tour that participants get to help plan. Which peak we go to will be decided based on weather and conditions — a surprise! Participants also help with route choices and breaking trail during the tour. The goal is that by the end of the day, you feel confident going on a simple tour on your own. We wrap up the day around 3:00–4:00 PM, just in time to travel home the same evening.

Please note that the program may be adjusted due to weather conditions.
