Join us for a ski touring course in Vemdalen. This course is designed for beginners who have never tried ski touring before, or who may have done a tour on their own but want to learn more and start being able to head out independently in the future. We won’t be doing any advanced skiing – if you’re comfortable on blue and red slopes, this course will be a great fit! No previous off-piste experience is needed either. This is a beginner-friendly course where the focus is on helping you feel more confident and learning the basics. We’ll move uphill at a relaxed pace, with the goal of enjoying the tours. If you’re looking for something more extreme, this might not be the right course for you.

You’ll also learn how to plan your own tours and gain basic avalanche knowledge, including companion rescue.

In this course, you’ll learn about avalanche awareness, tour planning, navigation, uphill techniques, as well as route choices and terrain. All so that you’ll be able to start heading out on easier tours on your own afterwards.

Itinerary

Online meeting beforehand with avalanche knowledge. Date & link will be sent out a couple of weeks in advance.

Day 1
We meet in Vemdalen and start the day with coffee & an introduction before heading out into the mountains. Here you’ll learn how the equipment works, techniques for ascending and descending, and we’ll take plenty of time for questions. The goal of the day is for you to feel confident with your equipment and know how it functions. We’ll also practice avalanche rescue. The day includes a tour in the local area.

Day 2
We begin the day with about an hour of theory focused on tour planning. After that, we head out for a longer tour. Along the way we’ll look at route choices both uphill and downhill, as well as terrain, and discuss in the group why we make the choices we do. The goal is for participants to understand how to structure a tour, both in the planning phase and out in the terrain.

Day 3
Today we go on a beautiful tour that the participants help plan. Which summit we choose will depend on the weather and conditions – a surprise, in other words! Participants will also help with route choices and setting the track. The goal is that after today you should feel confident to head out on an easier tour on your own. We finish the day around 15:00–16:00, just in time to travel home the same evening.

Please note that the program may be adjusted due to weather conditions.
