Climbing Sweden’s highest mountain is a dream for many, as is gaining the skills to explore the mountains independently in a safe and confident way.
We begin this adventure with an online meeting where we’ll go through equipment and trip planning to prepare for the journey.
You’ll learn how to plan a hike, conduct a risk analysis, navigate, set up camp routines, manage equipment, find the best route, and think about safety in the mountains—plus much more. Our goal is to give you as much experience as possible so you can confidently embark on your own adventures.

Program
Before the Trip
We’ll have a digital meeting where we go through equipment and trip planning. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and meet your fellow participants online a couple of weeks before the trip. A link to the meeting will be emailed one week in advance.
Day 1
We meet in Nikkaluokta at 12:00 and start our hike towards Kebnekaise Mountain Station, where we’ll set up our camp a short distance away. To conserve energy, we hike with only a daypack, while your main luggage is transported to the mountain station.
Once we arrive at camp, we’ll go over camping routines, set up our tents, and prepare a delicious dinner. In the evening, we’ll review the day and analyze how well our initial planning matched the reality of the hike—learning about pace, terrain, and distance.
You are responsible for getting to Nikkaluokta on your own. If you take the Nikkaluokta Express bus from Kiruna, you will arrive in Nikkaluokta at 11:30. More details on transportation options can be found below.
Hiking distance: 19 km
Day 2
Today is a potential summit day if the weather looks more favorable than on Day 3.
We’ll dedicate the day to training in navigation, route planning, safety, and risk assessment for summit day. There will be plenty of time for questions and preparations. We’ll also pack our backpacks and do a thorough briefing for the summit attempt. The rest of the day is yours to rest and recharge for tomorrow.

Day 3
Summit attempt on Kebnekaise’s southern peak!
After breakfast, we set out with light packs, leaving everything we don’t need at camp. The route to the summit is 10 km with a 1,600-meter elevation gain. Expect the entire ascent and descent to take around 13–14 hours at a steady pace. We’ll take regular breaks to ensure everyone has the energy to complete the climb. After the summit attempt, we return to camp for a well-earned dinner and rest.
Throughout the day, we’ll focus on the mental aspect of an expedition. You’ll learn strategies to stay motivated when things get tough and how to approach a summit attempt in the best possible way. We will maintain a slow and steady pace, avoiding exhaustion and allowing for an enjoyable experience.
Hiking & climbing distance: 18 km + 1,800 meters elevation gain
Day 4
Time to head home! After breakfast, we pack up our camp and hike together from Kebnekaise Mountain Station back to Nikkaluokta. Just like on Day 1, we will only carry a daypack, as our main luggage will be transported.
In the afternoon, the bus departs from Nikkaluokta at 16:40, arriving in Kiruna at 18:00, giving you time to catch the night train home.
Hiking distance: ~19 km
The itinerary may be adjusted based on weather and conditions.
