Jämtland Haute Route 4-8 March 2026

25 March, 202629 March, 2026

12kr – 900kr

Join us on our exploratory trip to the Jämtland Haute Route! We’ve sketched and researched, planned and prepared – and now it’s finally time to put the concept to the test!

Since this is the very first time we’re running this adventure, you’ll be part of exploring, testing, and experiencing it for the very first time together with our guide. And because it’s an exploratory trip, the price is extra favorable!

We’ll travel on ski touring / randonnée equipment in the Jämtland mountains, taking on an adventure far away from the ski resorts.

Haute Route in Jämtland – a five-day journey from hut to hut through the mountains. We combine learning new ski touring skills with an unforgettable adventure.

  • Ski touring equipment
Review of different types of equipment, with pros and cons. Parts of this will of course be covered before the trip to ensure everyone has the right gear once we are on site.

  • Ski touring techniques
How to move efficiently with skins, perform kick turns and transitions, plus smart ways to carry your skis.

  • Ascent route choice
How to set a safe and efficient skin track uphill, where and how to make turns, and which formations to avoid.

  • Skiing technique in varying snow conditions
How to handle crust, wind-packed snow, breakable crust, hardpack, and other challenging snow types we’ll encounter along the way.

  • Descent route choice
How to find the best snow while choosing the safest line down.

  • Tour planning
How to plan a tour using a map, including estimating time and distance.

  • Avalanche awareness for ski touring
On the first day, we go through essential avalanche knowledge so that everyone feels confident with companion rescue and knows how to use the equipment.

  • Plenty of great tours
We’ll spend the week exploring the high mountains and enjoying many spectacular ski runs along the way.

Itinerary

Day 1
We meet in Vålådalen in the morning, with the meeting time adjusted to fit the night train arrival in Undersåker (from where a bus runs to Vålådalen). We start off with a ski tour on Ottfjället so that our guide can get to know you, and we can test technique and equipment before heading into the wilderness. Overnight at Vålådalen Mountain Station.

Days 2–4
We begin our Haute Route adventure, crossing mountain peaks and passes. We stay in mountain huts along the way, exploring together. Each day we’ll climb around 600–800 vertical meters. Overnight in mountain huts.

Day 5
We fit in one final ski tour in the area before a snowmobile transfer takes us back to Vålådalen in time to catch the night train home.

Please note that the program may be adjusted according to weather and conditions.

Topo Travel offsets the carbon footprint for all travelers taking the train. If you prefer to travel another way, we recommend offsetting your trip through e.g., Vi Skogen.
